New Holes and Big Machines

So this morning I woke up to men yelling and the beep of a truck backing up. Immediately I thought about the construction we are having done on the house (new floor downstairs, new septic system and new fridge) I then thought, is that REALLY today.

Now, I'm not a late riser, usually I can't sleep past 8. They pulled into the driveway no later then 7:10. Which is almost 6, which I found to be WAY too early. However today is my only day off all week and I was hoping that I would at least have a peaceful relaxing morning. Well that day is not today.

So more importantly, the dogs, they had never seen a machine as big and as loud as what they were pulling off the bed of the trailer. It was one of those Cat Excavators, it makes lots of noise and not to mention does a decent job completely ripping up our front lawn. Who needs grass right? Its one less area to mow.

So they keep looking out the window, and every time they swung it around Bear would bark, then turn and run away from the window. It took them 2 hours to dig the holes they needed, and for about an hour he did this until finally he realized it wasn't coming through the big bay window to eat him. And not to mention Maci didn't move while this whole process was going on (clearly she is the brave one).

They were totally envious of this, they wish they could dig a trench even close to this size.

They got over their fears (and by they, I mean Bear), its much less scary when its not making noise and staying still.

Road Trip and New Toys, Best Day Ever!

So incase you haven't gotten the hint already, I take the dogs everywhere with me, this means work, friends' houses, the beach, dinner parties, basically everywhere that I can. But when I can't take them with me I like them to be busy. This means that they need toys, lots and lots of toys that will keep them busy when they have to be in their crate.

So we took a road trip to Petsmart and Petco, it is far too difficult to handle a camera while picking out toys and controlling two dogs so when we are in the store I didn't take any pictures, but there are some cute pictures of the aftermath and the car ride.

I've decided that tired puppies are the best kind of puppies, and when they have ample toys to run around and play with they become sleepy and don't cause trouble.

Bear is as far away from Maci as he can get, but he barely fits behind the seat now, just a few months ago they both fit there!

Maci thinks she owns this car, just look at her.

Bear with Elephant, Lobster, Hamburger and Bone.

I think they might have been digging to China

The beach, who doesn't love the beach. When you live in Southern Rhode Island the beach is a big part of life. You deal with beach traffic 4 months out of the year, all the nosy tourists, but just the same you love the beach, and your dogs love the beach.

They are both big diggers, and the beach is a great spot to dig. During one trip to the beach the were able to dig so far down that they found water. Not fresh water, but water just the same. You should have seen me trying to fill in their 2 foot deep by 3 foot wide hole. Ridiculous. Anyway I love bringing them to the beach, even though they get me exponentially more sandy then I would ever be just going with friends.

Summertime is pool time.

So a friend, Justin has a pool, I've been over plenty of time with the dogs, but usually I end up tying them up so that they don't start playing and fall in the pool on accident. But on this particular day it was REALLY hot, and they were panting a lot and seemed hot and uncomfortable. I decided that they needed to go for a swim, and so I picked up one at a time and brought them into the pool. Maci was much more comfortable then Bear, but they both swam great just the same.

After about 2 minutes in the water Bear figured out that he could climb onto me to get out of the water and ended up on my shoulders and because the water was only about 4 feet deep in that area I couldn't get him back into the water so I had to call it quits. But I ended up getting a few pictures of Maci swimming, she liked it, but was ready to get out after about 30 seconds.

Block Island Ferry, children and dog friendly.

So one day, my friend Colleen and I decided to visit our mutual friend Joe out on Block Island. For those of you who have never been, its an island off of Rhode Island that you can only get there by ferry, which is about an hour ride. I was pretty sure my dogs had never been on a boat before, and I hoped that they would not get sea sick.

Well the dogs were totally fine but Colleen was feeling the rough seas. So that meant I was on my own with the dogs trying to keep them out of people's way and under control. During the trip I saw how much Maci loved little kids. Almost every kid that got within reach was licked, laid on, and tolerated.

On the trip to the island, an adorable 4 year old blonde girl sat with Maci for most of the trip, and on the way back there were two toddlers who pulled on her lips, ears, feet and tail. She stayed by them and put up with their antics. It was by far one of the cutest moments I've had with her and I could see that she just really loved it.

So then I got to thinking that she would make a great therapy dog for sick kids, she has to be at least 6 months to start so she has a few more weeks but I hope that she will do well and help people.
